Greetings to all our new backers and thank you for helping us bring Castles by the Sea to game store shelves. We're excited to be fully funded and happy to be able to show off all the extras this game offers. So on to today's daily reveal!

The Captain and the Prison

"Safety Within," said Kenji, Captain of the Shellfolk Royal Guard. "Those are the sacred words of the Shellfolk Kingdom." He took off his cowrie helm and rubbed his temples. The two prison guards stared straight ahead, shamefaced. He wasn't really mad at them - the Coral Kingdom thief had escaped three times now. No, he was mad at himself. But he was the captain and they were the guards, and yelling made him feel a little better. "How are we to keep our people SAFE when we can't seem to keep one little thief WITHIN his prison cell?!"

Today's reveals show off some of the variety of play styles built into Castles by the Sea. Points are scored in the game by getting more of your pieces onto the board, and controlling board space keeps your opponents from getting their own pieces into play, so making plays that restrict your opponents' options can be one path to victory.

The Captain (a variant of the Guard) wants to be close to allies. Placing him allows you to further block out territory around your other pieces and gets you points while he does so. He's generally an easy piece to place, but he comes with one downside: if a Hazard takes out one of your figures, it's going to get the nearby Captain as well. His protectiveness of his allies comes with that added risk.

The Prison is one of the most effective blocking pieces in the game. As a variant of the Door, the Prison keeps opponents from placing any figures in its tile. However, with its unconventional placement requirements (3 sides covered), the Prison can be challenging to get on the board, so plan carefully and try to get it out early!
